The Philippine archipelago is consist of 7641 islands, which only about 2,000 are inhabitable. Philippine Islands are grouped into three major islands. The Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Two of these islands is Cebu and Bohol. Two provinces in Visayas region that possess beautiful and captivating places.

It’s difficult to find one place which literally has everything you might look for. We are fortunate enough as a Filipino since we don’t need to travel for so long and sail the oceans just to get into beautiful places outside the country because most of the paradise-like destination here in the Philippines is just an hour away. Cebu and Bohol are enough to satisfy your “WANDERFUL” soul.

It’s no wonder why these provinces visit by so many tourists. I will tell you the reasons why.  For travelers out there, this post will help you throughout your journey to the province of Cebu and Bohol.

First of all, let me guide you how to get to Cebu

HOW TO GET TO CEBU

The fastest way to get in Cebu is by plane. Arrival is at Mactan – Cebu International Airport. You can book a direct flight from Manila to Cebu via Cebu Pacific Air or Philippine Airlines. Traveling to Cebu is just an hour away from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Mactan- Cebu Internation Airport. Aside from plane, you can also get in Cebu via bus and ferry.

WHERE TO STAY IN CEBU

We stayed at San Marino Residences. It is very convenient since popular establishment and commercial building is just right across the street.  San Marino Residences is located at J. De Vera Street, North Reclamation area, Cebu City, just right across SM City Cebu. San Marino Residences is very accessible since it’s just a walking distance to the domestic seaport and 20 minutes away from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. San Marino Residences is also accessible by PUJs and taxi.

The rooms are clean, nice and cozy, each room has a different elegant design that will surely make you feel a peaceful and pleasant ambiance. Each room is complete with kitchen utensils, cable TV, one bed, table and internet connection.

PLACES TO VISIT IN CEBU

It’s no wonder why the province of Cebu visits by so many tourists, both local and foreign because of its magnificent attractions, the paradise-like and unique natural wonders that you can find in each Municipality of Cebu. So here is my list of places you might like to visit in the province of Cebu.

Pescador Island

If you’re a diving enthusiast, or you’re just fond of seeing Marine life Another breathtaking underwater view that you should try is no other than Pescador Island.

Pescador Island is a small island and part of the municipality of Moalboal located in the Tañon straight, it’s approximately a 20-30 minute boat ride from Panagsama beach. The abundance of giant sardine ball, a once in awhile opportunity to see the sea turtles and stunning coral reefs made Pescador island popular for divers and snorkelers around the world. It is also considered as a famous marine park in Cebu.

Alegria – Badian Canyoneering and Kawasan Falls

Alegria Canyoneering and Kawasan Falls in Badian is one of the places that you should not miss to put on your list if you want to experience some extreme adventure in Cebu. This extreme adventure is also one of the highlights of our vacation in the province of Cebu. For those who didn’t know what canyoneering is all about. Basically, canyoneering is traveling in canyons using a variety of techniques and outdoor skills which required for some adrenaline pumping and death-defying activities. These activities include cliff jumping, down-climbing, scrambling, hiking, and swimming. Canyoneering is frequently done in a remote settings places like in Alegria and Badian in Cebu. If you’re an adventure seeker or a type of person who is not afraid of this kind of activities, this one is for you.

Whale shark watching at Oslob

This massive guy from Oslob, Cebu is a such a wonderful creature that I’ve ever seen in my life by far. Despite from their physical attribute and appearance,  they are actually harmless and they only eat planktons, squid, and other small fishes. Oslob should be on your travel bucket list when you visit Cebu!

Sumilon Sandbar

Sumilon Island is a small island located in the southern part of Cebu. I must say that you should not skip Sumilon Island if you’re already in Oslob. It’s lies about 20-30 minutes boat ride away from Tan-awan in Oslob.This fascinating island in Cebu is one of the top destination and one of the most popular among the tourist because of its perfect white powdery and smooth sand bar.

Tumalog Falls

And yes! Like what I’ve said, It’s no wonder why the province of Cebu visits by so many tourists, both local and foreign because of its magnificent attractions, the paradise-like and unique natural wonders that you can find in each Municipality of Cebu. One of these unique attractions is the fresh and cool turquoise pool and the cascading waterfall of Tumalog falls in Oslob.  Tumalog Falls is located in the highlands of Oslob, it is only 15 minutes away from the Whale shark watching area.

Spanish Cuartel

The Cuartel was built in the Spanish era around the 1800s, the cuartel serve as a barracks for the Spanish troops or Guardia Civil assigned in Oslob. Unfortunately, when the Americans arrived in the Philippines, the Spanish left the cuartel and the construction was terminated.

It’s just amazing to think that even a long time has been passed, even after facing a war, a large number of earthquakes and typhoons happened, the church and remains of the cuartel were still intact.

Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Conception

One of the oldest churches in Cebu. It is located just a few meters from the municipal hall of Oslob. This massive church is one of the beautiful churches that you can be found in the province of Cebu. I was amazed by its design and the architecture was pretty awesome, the quality of the materials used to build this church is truly durable despite all adversity that happened in the past decades.

Monastery of the Holy Eucharist

Another church you must visit is this castle-like church is located in Upper Lindongan barangay Simala in the town of Sibonga, about two hours travel from the center of Cebu. The Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, or popularly known as the Simala Church.  This shrine was built in 1998 after the episodes miraculous events, including Mama Mary’s shedding of tears. Because of the said miracles, Simala Shrine became so popular, devotees hoping that their prayer requests would be granted. This shrine also became popular by its amazingly unique design.

Temple of Leah

Another stunning landmark and one of the newest attraction in Cebu is the Temple of Leah. This Greek architecture inspired design was constructed in 2012 and located in Roosevelt Street Barangay Busay, Cebu City.

Inside the temple, you can see the 10ft tall bronze statue of Queen Leah Albino Adarna wearing a crown and holding a flower. The Temple of Leah has an art museum, gallery, and library where all of the lifetime collections of Leah Albino-Adarna are showcased in the 24 chambers of this temple principally for the members of the family who cherish her memory.

Temple of Leah is still under construction but tourists are already welcome to visit the temple.

Taoist Temple

The Cebu Taoist Temple is another one of the famous tourist attraction in Cebu City. This non-catholic shrine in Cebu is very popular because of its design and proximity to the city proper. The Taoist temple was built by the Chinese community in 1972, located in Beverly Hills Subdivision. The architectural design was derived from the typical multi-tiered Taoist temples in China, this temple has an elevation of 300 meters above sea level. Non-worshipers are also welcome to enter the temple. The view of the modern and crowded city of Cebu that can be seen from the temple is spectacular.

Sirao Farm

This place was dubbed as the “Mini Amsterdam ” since Amsterdam in Netherlands is popular for their beautiful flower gardens. This tourist attraction is a very famous garden in Cebu.

Most of the flower that you can see in Sirao farm is called Celosia,  the name of this flame-like flower was derived from the Ancient Greek word “kḗleos” which means burning. The Celosia have different colors, some colors are red, orange, purple, pink and some are yellow.

There are other varieties of flowers grown on the farm aside from Celosia such as Sun Flower, tulips, daisy, etc that makes the surroundings so amazing, beautiful, picturesque and instagramalbe.

Fort San Pedro

Aside from the Spanish cuartel in Oslob,  there is another amazing Spanish structure that you can be found in Cebu, located near the Plaza Independencia, in the pier area of Cebu City. While there are several Spanish structures were built around the country the Fort San Pedro is known as the smallest and the oldest fort in the Philippines since Cebu is where the first Spanish settlement took place.

Magellan’s Cross

When you’re in Cebu, one of the places you should not skip is the historical Magellan’s Cross, located in the heart of Cebu city. The Magellan’s Cross is one of the most popular and famous landmarks in Cebu because of its history. The original Magellan’s cross was encased in a Tindalo Wood to protect from people who get small parts of the cross for a souvenir or in the belief that the cross possesses miraculous power.

WHERE TO EAT IN CEBU

Zubuchon

The Cebu’s famous restaurant specializing in what Anthony Bourdain described as the “The Best Pig ever”. They offer a super delectable and crispy Lechon. You can find Zubuchon at the lower ground of SM Cebu City, One Mango Mall, and along B. Rodriguez Street.

The Big J’s Restaurant

If you’re looking for a cheap but offers a delicious food and native delicacy of Cebu, I highly suggest the Big J’s restaurant.  This restaurant got all of your needs, they served crispy letchong kawali, pork belly, chicken inasal, adobo, grilled jumbo prawn, grilled stuff squid, chop suey and much more. Big J is located at Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Oslob.

WHAT TO DO IN CEBU

Out of the many places that you might visit in Cebu, one day or even three days tour is not enough to do all the things you might want to do, I’m pretty sure that it’s not enough to fill your wanderlust. There are so many spots and destinations to explore, search for hidden paradise and rediscover wonderful places in Cebu. In fact, each municipality has their own unique picturesque scenery and super attractive summer destinations.

At first, I don’t have any idea what activities awaits for us in Cebu. I thought it was just a simple vacation until we experienced the canyoneering in Badian, it was totally awesome and worth to share the experience. I promise myself that I will return to Cebu to try other death-defying extreme activity like in Badian canyoneering. I’ve enjoyed swimming with the whale shark as well since it was my first time to swim with a huge fish. Aside from the water activities, I found out that going to some historical places makes you realized how our history is very important especially to the millennials like us, we visit some of the historical sites in Cebu such as Magellan’s Cross, Fort San Pedro, hundred of years churches and the Spanish Cuartel in Oslob.

Here are some of the activities you might want to do when you visit South Cebu:

• Snorkeling and diving at Pescador Island
• Canyoneering in Badian
• Hiking
• Trekking
• Cliff jumping
• Swim with whale shark in Oslob
• Visit Greek architecture-inspired temple(Temple of Leah)
• Visit Sirao Flower Farm
• Visit Taoist Temple
• Visit popular Magellan’s Cross
• Visit historical churches
• Pray at the Miraculous Simala Church
• Swim at turquoise water pool of Tumalog Falls
• Buy pasalubong
• Don’t leave Cebu if you haven’t tried their famous Letchon.

BOHOL

After our 3 days awesome trip at Cebu, we went to our next destination for another marvelous adventure from the another gem of Visayas, the splendor underwater and over hills or popularly known as Bohol. The island of Bohol filled with both natural and historic attractions and an eco-cultural paradise. A perfectly cone-shaped chocolate hills located in Carmen, Bohol was undoubtedly the most famous tourist attraction in the whole province.

HOW TO GET TO BOHOL FROM CEBU

So, you were asking how to go to Bohol if you are coming from Cebu? Honestly, It’s very easy than you think! Let me tell it to you.  First of all, our hotel is located 10-15 minutes away from the Pier. From the gate of the pier, there’s a booth where you can buy a ticket. The ticket price is Php 400.00(As of February 25, 2017) per trip going to Tagbilaran City, Bohol via Oceanjet. The travel time lasts only for two hours. We left Cebu City around 6:00 in the morning and we arrived at Tagbilaran port around 8:15 AM. WHAT TO DO IN BOHOL

Like in Cebu, there’s a lot of fun and exciting activities await here in Bohol and you shouldn’t miss those things. The moment we stepped in Bohol, my body was filled with excitement and its seems like it circulates from my head to toe and all over my body. My Apology, I’m just excited to see Chocolate Hills and tarsiers. 😀

Here’s my suggested list of activities to do in Bohol.

• Visit the Blood Compact shrine at Tagbilaran City
• Visit the famous chocolate hills
• Take a closer look with the tarsier
• Eat in the floating restaurant at Loboc River
• Visit butterflies habitat
• ATV riding around chocolate hills
• Visit the shell museum
• Cross the hanging bridge in Sipatan
• Bohol Python and wildlife park
• Explore the Man-made forest
• Visit Baclayon Church
• Visit Bohol Bee Farm
• Swim at the water pool of Hinagdanan Cave
• Beach bumming in Panglao beach
• Buy some souvenirs

This is based on the tour package that we’ve availed during our 5 days trip in Cebu-Bohol.

Airfare is not included since it depends on the price of your ticket. We booked a ticket via Cebu Pac last year around March 2016 and we were just lucky that Cebu Pacific had a Piso fare that time. Overall, most of us spent around 13-16k including foods, pasalubong, and other necessity.
